Indigenous workers are often seen through an ethnocentric lens that sees them as liabilities in workplaces, needing to be controlled. As evidenced by disproportionate rates of workplace injuries and fatalities, this approach is fails. In contrast, there is an alternative narrative, where cultural intelligence is used to re-examine and co-design more practical health and safety precepts. Moreover, all cultures steward positive narratives and values about wellbeing and health and safety especially in terms of risk perception. Helping to bring this knowledge into the modern light as practice is an illuminating and rewarding experience for workers, practitioners, and businesses.
