Debates around animals in research are very emotional, but when discussing with the general public, numbers and data can be used in an attempt to make the arguments sound more scientific. However, that isn’t what we mainly talk about. What we discuss or want to discuss is what it feels like to do one of these experiments, how we struggle with this, how people made mistakes and how we are smarter than 20 years ago, for example. Often the numbers don’t help make this area more tangible, I think sometimes it really misses the point.
