Very often we see disagreement because people don’t know how science works and in particular, what uncertainty means. Uncertainty around success of experiments is especially hard to grasp; what does it really mean to have 90% chance…what measure of success do we even apply? Generally, numbers are not very helpful when having these conversations because everyone ends up making different implicit assumptions. So, we try and use individual cases to make our point instead, giving examples of what kind of challenge produces what kind of uncertainty, and what we can do about that.
